Research

Context:

For the final part of our project, we were commissioned to take part in an event at The Light Cinema where we would create a look based on the films “Hocus Pocus” or “A Nightmare On Elm Street”. I was given the role of creating a victim of Freddy Krueger for this event using my skills in basic glam/ straight makeup and special effects makeup.

Research:

I know that Nightmare On Elm Street is set in the 1980’s, so I have to make sure that the hair and makeup I create is accurate to the time frame. I also need to make sure that my makeup is suitable for film and TV- not too powdery or cakey. The character I am creating is based on one of the victims of Freddy Kruger but not directly accurate to any specific character, so I will be creating a no-makeup-makeup look with 1980’s hair.

Before my final assessment, I researched different ways to create 1980’s hair by looking at different images that I could find on Google Images. These were some pictures that inspired me:

Through my research, I learnt that 1980s hair had lots of volume and waves, which I will definitely take forward during my assessment.

One way I tried to make a 1980’s hairstyle was to make a beehive and add tight curls around the rest of the head, in my practice I only completed the beehive and some of the curls but I am confident in my ability to create lots of curls spontaneously.

I don’t think I will do a beehive in the assessment because I don’t think it is particularly accurate to the 1980’s, but I will do lots of curls.

These are my final face chart and mood board for this assessment:
