TUTOR FEEDBACK:
After my assessment, my tutor gave me a few points for feedback; she liked my prosthetic and said that my lip liner was very even but the eye makeup needed more depth. She also said that the skin base was very good but I used too much powder considering that the look was an editorial piece for film and tv/ horror photoshoots. I also needed to slick back the hair on the editorial side of the face. I agreed with this as when I thought that I’d finished it was really the bare minimum and wouldn’t get me a good grade. I took these notes on board to create my final images.
PERSONAL REFLECTION:
I may have been a little unprepared for the first assessment in this project because I think I tried to do a more “advanced” look instead of considering what I could realistically complete in the short time I was given (2 weeks). I am not at the level to create my own flat moulds and I couldn’t contact anyone who could once I was sure about what look I wanted to achieve. Overall though, I think I did well on my assessment. Apart from my the few things I needed to improve, I especially liked the effect of the latex after I had added more. It looked like the skin was melting into the second face, and the q-tips I used to apply the fake blood gave a really nice effect when they started to come apart. If I were to do this assessment again I would make sure that I cut the mask to a right shape so that there aren’t any raised parts- this would make the seams look better and probably improve the look overall. If this wouldn’t work then I would cut the mask straight in half, make it the same way, but apply it to the middle of the face. That way the look would be half editorial and half special effects. I would also make sure that I filled the brows more and added a small false lash. My model’s eyelid space was quite small, so if I were to do this again I would try to find a model with bigger eyes. I would also make sure that I arrange a photographer sooner rather than later. I would also make sure to do more research into the proper techniques of film and tv makeup, including making sure to remember notes from my previous editorial/ film and tv so that my work improves. I also needed to add a lot more latex eventually because the mask sometimes came loose and the seams needed to be hidden.
SMART TARGET: In my future assessments I will try to include a time lapse of creating my face charts.
