Hockney Joiners shoot

To follow on from my theme of public transportation, I visited the bus station in Bradford and took photos there to use for my recreation of a Hockney Joiner. I tried to take at least 8 landscape photos across in rows, going from one point to another. I took quite a few photos, making sure to keep track of what was in each frame, so they could all overlap more when I put them together. A focal length of 55mm was used so the photos could all be smaller and clearer when printed out. I did this during an hour where there would be a lot of people traveling through the bus station. This is so I could have photos where there are random legs and people walking in front of the camera to make the final combination of photos look slightly more distorted and chaotic. I feel that the final result would most likely be quite boring without that many people in it.

I decided to create my own Hockney Joiner by taking a more digital approach and editing all my pictures together as best I can in photoshop. I like some aspects of how it turned out as it almost looks like a 2 point perspective photo. The markings on the floor and signs on the walls of the bus station made it easier to join the photos in the correct order.

One thing I don’t like about the Hockney Joiner I made is the shape of the whole thing as all the edges of the frame are fairly straight except for the right side as there are empty spaces where I hadn’t taken pictures. If I were to do this again I would make sure to take more care when picking an end point for where I want most of the frames to finish to prevent gaps in the finished Joiner.
