Forced perspective is a a technique that uses optical illusions to make objects appear as if they are farther away, closer, larger or smaller than they actually are. It manipulates human visual perception through the use of scaled objects, the correlation between them and the vantage point of the camera. In a group, we attempted to take some forced perspective photos.

This is one of the pictures I took where someone held the leaf on the left side and close to the camera to make it look like the other person-who was stood further away-was surfing on it. It was quite difficult to get the right angle for this as it was really close to the ground so it doesn’t look like she is surfing on it completely.

For this picture I used one of the concrete bollards at the side of the street and tried to make it look like she was a smaller person standing on top of it. Again, it was difficult to get the correct angle even though I was crouching down so from afar it looks like she is stood on it but when looking closer, her feet aren’t touching the bollard completely. I think if I tried this again, I would be more mindful of the angle or use a tripod which would make taking the picture and keeping the camera in the correct position a lot easier.
