A photographer called Kyle Thompson, based in Portland OR, creates mysterious images in nature with people, but their faces are covered with bandages wrapped around them, creating a feeling of being trapped.
This can represent the feeling of being stuck in a dream or nightmare that you cannot wake up from.
Another artist I researched was Carter Baran, a surrealist nighttime photographer based in Western Canada.
He has a minimalistic approach to taking photos and isolates whatever deserves attention in the scene using selective lighting. Usually his pictures only have one person in them with their faces obscured which can mimic the feeling of solitude that some dreams have.
