Journey: Project Proposal

I started off by mind-mapping some initial ideas in a group of what sorts of concepts there could be to fit in with the theme of the Journey Project. Shortly after I tried out an art form called Textural Rubbing which has encouraged me to try and incorporate different textures in my photos.

I have decided that my theme for this project is going to be focused around travelling between varying locations. I came up with this when I used my phone to take 10 different textural images while travelling away from college.

I generated and developed ideas on what I can do relating to the Journey Project by going to different places (not only in Bradford) and taking photos using different techniques. One of these techniques were long exposure images taken of cars driving past. I took these kinds of pictures from a few different angles- both at street level and from above. I think these photos fit well with the project to begin with as they hold the 4D aspect of showing the passing of time.

Some of the photographers I have researched so far are David Gaberle and Nick turpin. Both of which have taken photos linking to transport, travel and location changes. Other secondary research I have done is look at some photos where the passing of time is shown, but whilst staying in the exact same position by taking pictures hourly. I think this is cool as it shows how a place can change as time passes. This is something I am considering trying.

My thoughts for a final outcome for this project are that I’m hoping to have many different photos illustrating varying ideas of what a journey can be.
