I interpreted the Dreams theme with a few different ideas such as maybe basing if off of fictional TV shows, stories and movies. What inspired these ideas were the Netflix series Stranger Things as I think it is a series with fiction, set in a non-fiction world. Some research I did was look at some different surrealist photographers work and see how they combined their abstract ideas with real life.
I explored some ideas in the darkroom many times, by using different materials and techniques to create different types of black and white images with some different concepts.
Some unexpected issues I faced were at the very start of the Dreams project, where there were some technical issues within the IT Department, which were overcome with no other problems after that.
What went well for me was taking pictures and editing photos in the style of a photographer called Luke Gram, which turned out really well, however I did find it quite difficult to incorporate the concept of dreams within this.
One thing I learnt during the Dreams project was how to use a darkroom as I did not know how to do this before and I experimented a lot with editing in Photoshop by overlaying and combining two different images together.
One thing I would do differently next time is carry out a larger number of photoshoots with a much wider range of themes and techniques.
I believe the thing that I was most successful with was taking photos in the style of Kyle Thompson as in my opinion, they turned out quite similar to his, if it weren’t for the plain black background and darker tones instead of using natural daylight lighting outdoors.
