Lior Zilberstein Shoot

For my shoot in the style of Lior Zilberstein, I decided to take photos around an area close to where I live. I made this decision because the photographers photos brought me a sense of familiarity so I thought it was best to shoot in an area which I knew to have a similar effect.

When looking at Zilberstein’s work from his project ‘Suburbia’ I noticed how there was no movement associated with people in his photos; Such as the presence of cars in motion. Because of this, I decided to shoot during the early hours of the morning. By doing this, I managed to avoid things like streaks of light from cars in the majority of my photos.

For the duration of my shoot, I made sure my camera was set to have a high F/Stop and a long exposure time of between 1 and 30 seconds. This was so my photos were not too underexposed as I was shooting at night. Additionally, I used a tripod and took multiple different test shots of each scene to acquire the correct lighting.

When I was taking these pictures, they all ended up looking really yellow because of the old streetlights so when I began editing, I started off by adjusting the white balance to make the colours look more natural. I then increased the vibrance and saturation to make the green of the trees pop more, like in Lior Zilberstein’s photos. Finally, I altered the colour balance to make the sky a deeper blue.

I followed the same editing technique for this photo except I adjusted the selective colour to take the red out of the photo.

I think this was quite a successful shoot as I feel my photos look very similar to Lior Zilbersteins.
