Ashraful Arefin

Ashraful Arefin is a Fine Art and Street photographer based in Dhaka, Bangladesh. His work often possesses a whimsical and dreamy feel, using average everyday elements. He has studied Fine Arts and chose Graphic Design as a major in university.

I am interested in recreating pieces of his work from a project he did called ‘Flower Stories’.

In this photographers work, I can see he has consistently used flowers- along with other objects- to create quite imaginative photos. It looks to me that Arefin has utilised his background in Graphic Design and knowledge in Photoshop to produce many photographic illusions such as floating flowers, petals and cups.

The colours and tones in the majority of his work making up this project are vibrant but still fairly cool. To me, this makes it look like many of them were shot on cloudy, grey days. Also, a pattern I noticed in all of these pictures, is how they all have a seemingly shallow depth of field with a clear midground and very blurry fore/back grounds. I like the bokeh effect this makes so I am going to attempt to recreate this in my own images.
