Future Project – Final Evaluation

The type of research I carried out for the Future Project was mainly investigating the photographic and editing techniques of other photographers/artists, such as Entung Liu and Antoine Geiger. The reason why I chose to look at the work of these two people was because their photos strongly focused on a similar subject matter that I had chosen for this project; Which was societies relationship with technology, media, how this relationship impacts them in real life and in turn, how it affects their future.

Looking into ACCU and the first shoot I carried out surrounding ACCU as a company, heavily influenced the development of my work as it then led to me using the same editing technique in my social media shoot -which linked to my chosen theme more. Another technique I used during this project was darkroom overlaying.

The most practical and theoretical problems I encountered were throughout the Antoine Geiger shoots I did for my Final Piece, as they were the most complex -mainly while editing.

Keeping the client (ACCU) in mind for the duration of the whole project, I made sure not to include anything in my photos which could be interpreted as being remotely related to any political, racial, cultural, or religious ideas.

My Final Piece links with the theme of this project as the photo illustrates how if people keep overconsuming media and technology -constantly immersing themselves in their screens- it will end up having real life, negative consequences in the future for the whole of society with no escape.

The parts of this project that I feel have been the most effective were the end results of the Social Media and Antoine Geiger shoots I did. This is because they are both the most related to my concept and visualize the meaning behind both photos very well.

Many of the new skills I have learnt during this project are mostly studio related, such as how to utilise lighting and how to use a light meter. I feel I have gotten better at manipulating images in Photoshop and directing models as I photographed using people the most, during the Future Project.

An area I think I could further improve on is my initial creativity when taking photos in camera as many of my images taken during this project were quite plain and uninteresting before I edited them.
