It will die very soon so I have to get whatever I can documented before the laptop bites the dust for the rest of the day, and as I go looking for a charger. If I cannot get the laptop charged by the time I come home I will do this research temporarily at home and then continue the next day, Tuesday (tomorrow). I will research the below links in the bibliography – and now that I have charged my laptop I can begin.

It seems that in both genres they like to make use of hi-hats alot, especially open hi-hats which break the repeated nature of just hitting the specific cymbal a ton of times. For Funk especially, it drives the song and hi-hats are included in the most famous drum grooves which mostly everyone knows of. I am attempting to make a simple 4 bar pattern but at the moment it is unlikely that I am going to get anywhere the first time, so I’ll keep trying.

To incorporate the different BPMs of each style that typically range from slow to fast I will begin the drums slow and then eventually switch to a pattern that speeds up the hi-hats for the chorus or a double time breakdown, which is going smoothly for me. They blend in well too.

After looking at the second link in the bibliography it seems that playing with the velocity of the notes gets a more intricate rhythm, and trying to play minimal at the start so you can build a groove overtime is helpful. I should implement this next time I’m in college, and play around with a fade in sound effect since techno drums like to make use of that alot – will update on that.

BIBLIOGRAPHY:

Toews, B.
