Specific: Be able to use the QU-32 desk to put on a convincing musical performance, effectively and efficiently.
Measurable: This is measurable through how much I know at the time about the desk- if I can name what different functions are from looking at the buttons and slides on the desk, I will be improving. As well as this, if i am able to use the desk properly in our mock performance, then I will know. I will also try to write about what I have learnt on Digital Space.
Achievable: This is achievable and I am certain I can do this quickly.
Relevant: This is relevant to the course and myself because I have always wanted to take on a Live Sound role, and this can boost me for careers in the future. Naturally, this is one of the backbone positions of the gig so I have to make sure I’m up to speed for the role, and communicate with the bands during setup.
Time Bound: This should realistically be achieved by the 10th of October. Despite the performance being on the 17th of October, the mock performance is the mark to get things in order for so the gig doesn’t go wrong.
Specific: Include more technical terms in my portfolio. This means that I should try to include more discussion about musical terms, skills, techniques that can be relevant rather than just using an adjective in the back of my mind.
Measurable: I will know if I am performing well on this if I see an improvement in my grades. I currently perform at a merit/good standard so if I get any distinction/great in any kind of department (not just my final grades) I will know where I stand.
Achievable: This is achievable, I have been told by my tutors that I have the capabilities to get to this standard, and I somewhat believe in myself too.
Relevant: If I want a higher grade, it’s relevant.
Time Bound: This is through the whole year but especially near the end of projects it becomes important, as my grades will rely not just on my skill/practical level of work, but my portfolio. If I have nothing to show or can’t describe how I do a certain thing, then I won’t be able to get a good grade.
Specific: Broadening my horizons on three instruments such as drums, bass, and vocals. This means attempting harder and more complex drum grooves/techniques, playing the bass more frequently, and sometimes training my vocals incase it is ever needed. This is because I want to perform more covers and post them on my youtube channel, as well as be variable in what roles I can fulfil.
Measurable: This will be measurable in the case of me finding the techniques easier. I can hardly do a shuffle now on drums but in due time I should be able to try it. For the bass, being able to play with an entire 3 minute song should be a good measure of how well I am doing, because improper technique stops me from playing consistently without needing breaks. For vocals, I’ll figure it out as I go.
Achievable: This is very achievable because I am confident on the drums as is – there are certain things that I want to try such as shuffles and tighten up my 16ths. There are plenty easy songs to play on bass and if I can build up my technique and finger strength, I could attempt scales later on. Finding my vocal range (which might be a tenor voice) can help find what songs are in my catalogue, and attempting them over and over helps.
Relevant: This is relevant as my Initial Assessment used these three roles (performed by myself). I think attempting this cover again at another time will prove how far I’ve come, but that is for the time bound aspect.
Time Bound: This shouldn’t be done too quickly as to avoid burnout- I want to be realistic, so giving myself a few months to half a year sounds about right, especially for the drum parts which are harder than the bass and vocals.
