Friday the 27th September marks the day that I change over from band work to live sound work, and so I will not be participating in a band for the gig. Instead, I will be working closely with Lewis, using the Allen & Heath QU-32 sound desk to control the volume and make sure there isn’t any feedback issues during performances. To do this role though, I have to look into how to use the A&H desk properly: I’ll be consulting the quick start segment of the manual to find out what I can do with it.
The reason for the sudden change in roles is simply mental health. I haven’t been doing well and taking care of myself is a struggle, so I have made a joint decision with Nicolas to switch over to this less-seen, but just as important job role in the gig.
The A&H QU-32 will be my sound desk during the performance. To ensure I use it properly and efficiently, I will spend some time reading the manual from the official A&H resources website, for my specific model. (“QU-32 User Manual”)
Health & Safety with the QU-32
The user manual says to avoid handling the desk with rough mannerisms and to keep heavy objects and sharp ones away from it. This is to avoid scratching interfaces, cosmetics or outright crushing the desk as it is.
Avoiding contact with liquids and making sure dust doesn’t get in or on the desk is important, as it could fry the electronics or just stop it for good. This is an expensive piece of equipment, and I sure don’t want to be paying for a replacement.
