Crimson as a band works greatly. I think our dynamics are well, as my drumming does not overpower any of the other instruments during all three of our songs, and I don’t overplay, nor underplay any of the song beats.
I could afford to be more daring and divergent with my fills in Hey Joe, but I would prefer a safe few fills that I can repeat, rather than trying to cram notes into the piece. While I want to have the same feel that Mitch Mitchell has for the song, I do want to express myself with fills that I think work well for my style of playing – so I don’t want to copy what he plays, otherwise I wouldn’t be an artist; I’d be a copycat.
