Health & Safety Research

The following page details the various issues that can arise when gigging in the Music Industry and the risk they pose. From wires to people themselves, there is never a way to truly eliminate all risk, but that doesn’t mean we should take precaution. I will list a few and go over what we can do to keep us and our peers safe.

Electricals – Using faulty wiring or damaged electronics when setting up the stage and any devices means we can run the risk of electrocuting ourselves or even destroying the equipment. From short circuiting in the middle of a performance to actually killing someone, electricals are not a joke and if there is a damaged cable or piece of equipment, we should make no effort to move it and instead report it to the nearest tutor.

Manual Handling – Lifting amps and other equipment poses no risk if we use proper lifting technique and ask peers for help, but if people don’t do this, we can give ourselves a musculoskeletal disorder and harming tendons and muscles by taking on much more amounts than we usually can.
