The Setlist & Getting There

This is the current setlist playlist and is subject to change until a certain period.

I’m going to share the notes we had and evaluate only the few songs I have listened to so far/practiced for, which is currently three of the five on the playlist. The notes were made when we had much more planned, and a process of elimination was done by tallying up the difficulty for the members and the comfortability in performing the piece infront of a live audience.

Black Sheep – Brie Larson: This song proves to be a test of how smoothly I can switch between differing beats, patterns and how to use the snare effectively. As of writing I have attempted it a few times over the course of this Friday, and strides have been made. The way the simple four on the floor pattern slowly builds up into a quickened disco beat, only to go around the kit using the toms is sure to give the whole kit a turn in the song. I think I misjudged the difficulty because I feared the hi-hats opening frequently would prove too much, but after a quick practice they’re rather easy. This is a definite pick and will be our opener.

Spellbound – Siouxsie and the Banshees: This is another definite pick and the use of a tambourine will be up to me. I will attach a mini tambourine to my hi-hats so I can save the poor arms of our singer (which I’m fairly certain the tambourine is on the hi-hats anyway in the original mix). I feel like this song will prove to be difficult as adding a new piece to my kit that I’m not familiar with is bound for a rough learning curve, because I need to use my left foot more to use that tambourine. I already struggle with the left foot, because it’s weak- but it’ll be a lovely challenge that I intend to overcome.

Hung Up – The Mysterines: I’m unsure if this is up there for being marked but this song is fast, hard, uses open hi-hats and loves hitting the snare. I’m going to enjoy trying to keep up, because Go With The Flow from my last year’s performance was hard enough, this is a whole other level. Though I must say I have been listening to this song on repeat for a long time since discovering it, it’s quickly becoming one of my favourite songs. I will do my best to do this song justice if we end up picking it (which I will vouch for it to be on the final setlist, if we aren’t allowed five songs.)
