Hockney joiners are a collage that use a technique technique originally created by David Hockney that involves manual layering of multiple pictures on top of each other to create one distorted image of the original. This technique was created by accident when Hockney was working on a painting in Los Angeles and he took polaroids of the room and glued them together, creating a kind of story that he appreciated. This technique then became more common as people began creating their own.

This image is of a busy street from a high angle. This is taken across multiple times in the day, which is shown by the movement of people, cars and the sky changing from light to dark at random points, showing the passage of time. This also creates an interesting colour palette due to the more cold light of the day which contrasts with the warm light that is used at night.
My attempt

This was my first hockney joiner that I created. This was created by combining the pictures of the David Hockney building at college, as I saw it fitting for the creator of the technique. This hockney joiner was created from 20 different images and combined physically as opposed to digitally. Overall, it came out much better than I expected. However, I am not sure how I would incorporate this into my project as a whole. I feel as though this experimentation was fun to do and was worth trying, but I will most likely not be using it going forward.
