Elsa Schiaparelli

Elsa Schiaparelli was an Italian fashion designer, aristocrat and poet based in Paris, France. She was born 10th September 1890 and died 13th November 1973. Schiaparelli studied at the University of Rome and wrote a poetry book named Arethusa, which led to her being sent to a convent in Switzerland after her parents found out about the book and the sensual contents of the poems. So she’d be able to leave, Elsa Schiaparelli went on hunger strike. When she left the convent, she moved to London where she met Count William de Wendt and then moved to New York City with him and had a daughter, who she named Yvonne. Yvonne caught Polio and Elsa’s marriage was going poorly, leading her to divorce the Count and move to Paris. There, she started creating her own eccentric designs after spending time with creatives in the city.
