Candidate Name: Jack Blissitt
Candidate Number:
Pathway: Level 3 Performing and Production Arts – MMU Pathway
Project Title: FMP
Section 1: Rationale
(approx. 100 words)
What skills do you have?
I’m good at following creative briefs and themes to create my looks. I take on feedback as well as I can whenever I get it and try to apply it to the best of my ability. Before I started the course, I had little experience with makeup and no experience with hair, wigs or special effects, but I’d always been interested in them. I’ve since gained a lot of skill and confidence with those things in what is realistically a short time. During my time studying this course, I’ve found interest in various aspects of the makeup industry, mainly fashion and editorial and film and tv. I’m not fully decided on which I want to specialise in but a lot of my work does tend to lean more towards fashion and editorial. I think I’ve started to create a signature style of makeup this year of editorial looks that have more of a grunge and alternative edge, with my first practical assessment this year being based on raves and messy nights out, and my editorial alien-esque look from project 2 that incorporated special effects.
Section 2: Project
Concept
(approx. 200 words)
What are you doing for your FMP?
I’m doing three different looks for my FMP: a body paint based on the theme of culture; an avant-garde fashion look based on sin; and a theatre look based on Wicked.
For my first look, the cultural body paint, I’ll be creating a look based on the Venetian Carnival. I plan on painting a mask and bodysuit before the assessment to create a full cohesive look. Painting the bodysuit before the assessment will give me more time to work on the details. For this look, I plan on researching the history of the Venetian Carnival and the different masks to inform the design of my mask. I’ll also research tools and products used in body painting so I can better understand what I’m doing and the best way to use everything.
For my second look, I have chosen the sin of lust because I think there’s many ways I can interpret the theme in a high fashion, avant-garde way. I’ve decided that the look will be based on bondage due to its sexual nature and its history within fashion as well as it’s darker aesthetics, fitting the idea of sin. My look is designed for runway fashion rather than editorial. I’m going to make a body chain for the outfit. I will be researching the themes of my look as well as the fashion and editorial industries to help me know what the expectations are for makeup in said industries.
For my Wicked look, I have picked the character Madame Morrible, primarily because she’s an older character and it gives me a chance to use old age makeup. I’m going to style a wig for this look. I’ll research theatre hair and makeup and the theatre industry to help me plan my look and what’s needed for it to work on stage.
Section 3: Evaluation
(approx. 50 words)
How will you evaluate the process?
I will evaluate my practical work after each practice I do in lesson. I’ll use a format of writing what I think worked and what I need to improve and how I should improve it. For my practical assessments, I’ll use the same format but go into much more detail and be more specific about how I’d change things.
I will primarily use websites on Google for my research, but I might also use videos or books if I find any that help me in my research.
I didn’t have the chance to make a full plan, but I planned up to my first assessment and a bit after.
