Filming Evaluation
Day 1- Tuesday 2nd December
On Tuesday, we were filming the Juan scenes because Polly won’t be in on Wednesday so we added an extra filming day because she’s in all the Juan scenes. I got in quite early to set up and the first actor came in around quarter to nine but no one was in to open the makeup and hair cupboards until after 9. While I waited, I parted Polly’s hair and put it in a low ponytail that I’d later shove down the back of her shirt so it would look like a 1940s men’s style. Once Jenny opened the cupboards, I worked on Rose’s makeup and Karly did her hair. Jasmin got in and applied Polly’s moustache which matched her hair pretty much perfectly. I struggled with Rose’s makeup under her eyes due to watering and her lips smudged a little but I fixed them before going on set. Whilst on set I used the clapper, calling action and cut. We had some issues with parts of Polly’s hair being visible. It wasn’t too bad since she wasn’t moving her head too much but I did have to go win and put it back down a couple times. We filmed Juan 3 first because Rose needed to leave earlier. It took 15 takes, largely due to camera issues. In between scenes, I put some powder on Polly because her face was looking a bt shiny due to sweat. We filmed Juan 1 and 2 in order, with Juan 1 taking 2 takes and Juan 2 taking 4 takes. The only thing needed to remove was Polly’s mustache and then it needed cleaning with __, which took about 10-15 minutes.
Day 2- Wednesday 3rd December
I got in just before 8, our call time. Lisa was already in to open the hai and makeup cupboards, meaning we could start quicker. It was the boarder control scene first, and my actors were playing nurses. For rose, I gave her some light foundation to even her skin out on camera, some warm brown eyeshadow for definition with mascara and tightlining. I also gave her some bronzer and blush to add some warmth to her face since warm colour scenes were popular in the 40s. For her hair, I separated the front at the side and put the larger sections into rollers. I put the back into a hai net and pinned it. I left pins visible since the character probably wouldn’t have time to hide them pefectly if she was a busy nurse in a war. I took the rollers out and manipulated it into a spiral and pinned it to the side of the net. Isabelle had done her own makeup so I just did the same thing with her hair as Rose. It wasn’t as good because I was rushing. I started applying my prosthetics soon after. I didn’t know we were meant to use the same person as our practice so I just asked who needed prosthetics and applied to the first person who needed them. Rose’s hair came out right before filming and they needed me to come fix it. On the call sheet it only said they were filming in Bradford College with no specific details, so I thought they were in the filming studio but they weren’t and I want back to the makeup room because I’d left my phone there and contacted Nate to find out where filming was. They were at the back of Lister building in the car park so I just re-pinned the hair and left.
Day 3- Thursday 4th December
We were filming Ration Fashion and the party scene on Thursday. The first person I did hair and makeup for was Polly, whose character was wearing a potato sack. Because the scene was a fashion show
