Memories project – Unit 3

Research

Part One
Here i looked into Marie Curie Hospice to see who i was going to be doing my final piece for and so i would know what to do in my piece and what would be classed as inappropriate.
Then i decided to chose 4 memories i liked the most and mind map my ideas for each one so i know what to photoshoot when the time comes. This will help me choose which memory i will do for my final piece.
This is what i am aiming my final piece to look like. I will be making it so you cannot see the face of my friend but her silhouette so that anyone can relate to to picture.

Photoshoots

Part Two

.

Here is where i started to take photos from my ideas. For this memory i used my friend Abbie who goes to Cappa Dance College as my modal. She is a ballet dancer and i had her do different positions such as box and point, i took photos of the ballet shoes by themself as the memory said ‘she was a ballerina’ so it would show how she no longer dances.
This is the second photoshoot i did. I used the same modal but i had her sit and hold open one of my favorite books. The memory reminds me of my books and reading. When i read a book it feels like im n the book and away from ‘the stresses of the rest of the world’.
For this memory i decided i wanted to focus on the key word journey and take it literally by doing a photoshoot of cars, buses and people. This was to show that every person is on a journey of their own.
For this memory i wanted to show how even though i am now in college i’m still the same person. i wanted to show mainly how my friendships are the same and i used my two best friends sienna and kelsie to show case that. i have known sienna since 2021 and i have known kelsie since 2009 and are trio is still the same. i also took photos around college to show how my surroundings have changed but i haven’t. This is the memory i have chosen for his unit

Workshops

Part 3

.

For this workshop we did the postcard task. We were told that we had to create a postcard that represents what we plan are theme for our work to look like. So in smaller terms a mood board the size of a postcard. For the task i used the photos i took for my primary research and i did a collage to show how even though im at college now i still love books and it’s a big part of my personality and how i still have the same friends.

For this workshop we did typography. We were told to go onto photoshop and type in some words that relate to our theme so i chose my friends names and i put books on there as that’s also apart of my theme. Then we were told to play around with the sizes and the fonts.

For this workshop we were given charcoal and had to cover the whole paper in it and use a moldable rubber to add the light areas in. Out of all the images we were given i chose this one of a silhouette in water. I chose this picture as for my unit i’ll be doing silhouettes of my friends in bookstores.

For this workshop we had to either do portraits of ourselves or others in Frank Auerbach’s style. As my theme is my friends i decided to do my friend axel as i have met her while at college and it links to my theme as although i have met her in college it shows how i’m still the same person being that i still have the same interests but im growing and making more friends.

For this workshop we were able to choose between many different pictures of people and we had to cut it in half and recreate the rest of the picture. For my piece i chose to add in pieces of her face but also do a skeleton. This was to show that you’re still the same person inside and out no matter what happens including my theme of moving schools.

For this workshop we carried on with the previous typography lecture and started to experiment more with our theme. My first design was simply the names of my two close friends mirrored horizontally. For my 2nd design i added their names smaller and where my friends siennas name is big i added kelsie on top smaller etc. Then for the 3rd and final design i wanted to make it more related to my theme so i added a book with a blank cover and the aded the 2nd design on top.

For this workshop we were told to pick a work relating to out theme and walk around college and the grounds to find the letters, but they couldn’t be actual letters. It had to be things like windows for O or a chair leg for I. The work i picked was story. As books are a main park of my theme and books are stories.
For this workshop we had to create our own print and pattern relating to our theme. For my pattern i chose to do three stages of a book, closed book, half open book and an open book. First i had to sketch the pattern onto some foam and cut them out. After i used double sided tape to stick the foam onto a block of wood. Then i used red ink and roller to add the ink onto the foam and then pressed it down randomly on the paper to create my own pattern using print.
For this workshop we had to create a print using lino. I decided to use a picture from my first photoshoot as a refrence. and marked out on the lino where i wanted to cut. After i cut the lino i used a roller and a gel pad to put ink onto the lino and used an allbian press to place the inked lino onto the paper.
For this workshop we had to paint rocks to make them match our theme i decided to put my two friends names on their and add red splashes as my favourite colours red and was in highschool so it shows how i, still the same and so is my friends.

Artist Research

part 4

Maria Lax

Claire Morris

Here i did bit of my own photoshoot in Claire Morris’ style. I chose one of my books that my high-school english teacher gave me which makes it link to my theme of “im still the same person”. I used a craft knife and cut around the woman on the cover of the book and folded it up. For now i left the background bare as im just seeing how she des her work and how i can incorporate my theme more as i have chosen to do this for my final piece.

Final piece

Part 5

Here i incorporated my theme into Claire Morris’ work. For my final piece i was thinking of making my own book cover with my friends silhouette on the cover. I did a photoshoot with the same book from the last slide and stuck the picture of my friend on and later in photoshop i cut out her silhouette in colour and made the rest of the picture black and white and layered them on top of each other so she stands out. This is just me figuring out how i want to do my final piece.
