Project 1
Project one allowed me to grow in confidence and display my performance and stage presence skills. I created a band logo at home using my own devices and software, was voted group leader by the band in a poll and ensured we stayed on track. We had a few issues with productivity but we always got back on track soon enough when I proposed we do one more run through and have a break. I didn’t worry about time management too much because the songs I was set to learn were easy enough for me to learn in a few hours at most. My research was good and I documented how I learnt the songs and evaluated every rehearsal video we took. My context was decent, I looked into why each song was written and where they were sampled from.
Unfortunately, I don’t think I work well as part of a team as I like to work independently to ensure something is done to my standard. However, I don’t tend to get annoyed at other people for doing things differently and instead like to check in and share my thoughts on the work. I would say my communication skills are good because of this.
Project 2
During project 2, I learnt that my time management can be altered significantly by the amount of stress I feel. I battled this by planning out what I was going to do on what page and when before starting the project and I hope to keep on top of everything. Being behind on my written work meant I was stressed about getting it done alongside finishing other things which should have been spaced out to feel more manageable.
My instrumental skill level was adequate for the task as writing to a song I know the key of is reasonably easy after some experimentation and development in different parts of the song. For example, I followed the root notes of the guitar for the verse but mixed up the order while still following the ascending and descending pattern, whereas in the chorus I played two bars of octaves based around each guitar chord.
I demonstrated leadership skills by ensuring the band knew the details about the song, like what key we were writing in and what chords we could use as well as throwing ideas in like playing halftime during the chorus to change the feel and add variation. Everyone worked hard and contributed many ideas of which we tried out.
Project 3
So far, project 3 has introduced new skills that I feel passionate about developing as I can see how they would be useful in future personal and college projects as well as employment if I choose to go into a profession that requires that type of skill. Mixing has turned out to be enjoyable and useful as I enjoy fine-tuning certain sounds and editing to my own preferences. I’m someone who favours bass, impact and bright distortion, so learning frequency ranges of instruments and experimenting with EQ has been interesting.
