We’re Electric Blue. We have a total of 7 people in our band with an addition of another band’s singer. Listing by primary instruments, we have:
- Lukass on guitar (left)
- Jozef on guitar (right)
- Ashton on vocals
- Luke on keys
- Thomas on keys
- Gideon on drums
- Myself on bass
We decided on our band name and leader through anonymous polls and discussed reasoning for each vote in person. The main reason behind choosing Electric Blue was the clear colour scheme and our setlist not including acoustic versions.
The band leader poll started with all 7 of us but ended in a three person tie, so it was done again to confirm which one of us should take the role.
As band leader, I was responsible for keeping the band motivated and in high spirits, submitting graphics work and making sure we’re all prepared completely for the show.
As the instrument switches between songs are a bit confusing, I’ll list them here.
In the switch between I’ll Be Missing You and Gangsta’s Paradise, Gideon plays the tambourine instead of drums and Luke switches from keys to drums. Then, from Gangsta’s Paradise to Zombie, Thomas switches from keys to bass, I switch from bass to vocals. Gideon switches to keys and so does Ashton and the rest of the band stay on the same instruments from the song before.
The set begins with I’ll Be Missing You as it feels the most emotional. If we were to play this at the end or in the middle, it may feel like the set had slowed down despite the bpm being the highest. We also know that this song is the worst performed of the three for our band as our drum beat is still inconsistent and we struggled with structure a lot. We’ve been working on this and advised that Gideon uses a metronome during performances but I don’t believe it’s helped much.
Gangsta’s Paradise was supposed to be somewhat uplifting and energetic but Coolio’s recent passing may alter the feeling for some members of the audience. Still, we plan to move somewhat energetically as to build up to the last song of the set.
Zombie is by far the most energetic and well known song of the three. With almost everyone switching instruments or tone, keeping the mood high during the switch is crucial. I need to come up with something to say and Lukass will strum the chords from zombie to ring out, following a very short pause from Gangsta’s Paradise after adding phaser. This way once everyone is set up, he can play the introduction as usual and bring in the band.
