Rehearsal 2

Group Evaluation:

This particular rehearsal felt rushed yet lacking energy, which I think is a result of the drummer being too fast and the band having no communication about the speed. Our stage presence is poor, almost all of us are sitting and looking down, portraying no enthusiasm. Some variation was introduced during the choruses. Our group confidence is moderately better since we’ve practiced together for a few hours at this point and gotten used to the environment. No dynamic variation was displayed causing inaccuracy to the original and a somewhat boring performance. If the dynamics were to increase during the chorus, the energy would be raised significantly. Some technical mistakes were made, most noticeably in both guitars and occasionally in bass. The introduction and outro were rushed and messy, as the introduction felt too harsh and the outro was disorganised and sudden.

Personal evaluation:

I didn’t manage to learn the more complex bass part in time for this rehearsal, but I did variate what I play during the chorus. I missed a few notes in the beginning and felt a bit lost as to how the song was structured. To fix this, I listened mostly to the lyrics and counted the bars in the verses and choruses, as well as practice specifically the structure and development of the chorus. My rhythm wasn’t excellent during this rehearsal as the drummer was going too fast for most of us to keep up.

Group Evaluation:

The energy and confidence as a band is displayed here through a steady tempo, consistent rhythm and more movement overall as a band. Our vocalist and keys were both standing and I was tapping along. There were some technical mistakes again, but none were particularly noticeable. Our dynamic change was minimal here too and still needs to be studied and worked on. Our volume levels aren’t quite right, I’d say the keys and rhythm guitar should be moderately louder while the vocalists should overpower the band in some way.

Personal Evaluation:

My timing and rhythm in this performance was really good. I missed one or two notes during the first verse, likely due to missing the string and not being completely confident in my playing. I dissolved this issue by practicing during breaks and lunches with other members of the band. There wasn’t much variation during the chorus in this performance, although I could have changed it up a bit. I changed this before the rehearsal following this.
