To simplify the process, I have not documented while I mixed because I change so much that if I do something and forget to add it to this page, the next change won’t have reason.
Instead, once I have finished the mix completely, I’m going to record a video going through and explaining why I used certain effects and the specifics of each on each track.
I didn’t speak about some areas with confidence, mostly because as I was going through this I wanted to make changes as it had been a while since I looked through. I did listen and go through prior to recording this, but doing this recording made me realise what I could change to make things better, like fading out the guitars and adjusting some compression to have quicker responses.
I did actually watch a drum mix tutorial that talked of simplicity and not overdoing it as to not make it sound overly dull, so I have done the minimum of what I usually do for drums and I am happy with the outcome.
I like what I did with using the DI guitars as backing and having the amp guitar being the focus, it definitely gives the cover more character and there is only so much character DI could have given me. I forgot to mention that the DI guitars are also panned, not just offset.
Overall, I am very happy with how my mix sounds. It doesn’t sound professional, but it is a great starting point for doing more of this kind of project for my professional portfolio. I’ll upload a bounce below.
