Isobel and I put together the order in which the bands will play on the night. The reason we put the bands in this order is to maintain the energy level and to level out the quality of performances throughout the night.
More specifically, we placed Blanked first because the quality of their performance is balanced as their vocalist is confident, which means the energy of their performance is positive and high. I think some members might be nervous about being the opening act, but based on how I’ve seen the band as a whole interact, I think they’ll support each other when it comes to it.
Crimson is second because their band is another confident band, minus the last song with vocals. The high energy is carried over with their first song, then their second song is a big change in style. Everyone in this band is decently confident on stage from what I’ve seen in the rehearsals in front of the course, so their overall performance could inspire other bands and make them feel okay about being on stage afterwards. Their setlist is a bit different as the genre shifts midway through, but since this is the order they’ve rehearsed in it makes most sense to perform in this order.
The Tisms are one of the bands that are less confident overall but would sound good if they were more confident. They’ve been placed in the middle as it’s less nerve wracking as if they were first or close to last. Hopefully this will help with their confidence a little bit.
N.I.C are a strong band, especially with vocals and stage presence. Their energy between Ms Jackson and Hold On, We’re Going Home goes from high to moderate, since their second song is a little calmer and more emotional in parts. Their confidence is good and the transition from their second song to Lainnie’s performance is okay, since Lainnie’s chosen song is peaceful and quaint in ways, since the only accompaniment is acoustic guitar.
Since we’re headlining, we’re the last band to play. This is mostly to end the gig on a high note, since we’re planning an outro to our last song, Uptown Funk, to involve the audience to hopefully encourage them to get up and clap along. The genres we play in are very different in comparison to the pop and rock based set-lists other bands are performing, so it should be a nice change. We’re ending on a well known song so people can get involved more easily with the clapping, particularly in the outro and intro where clapping is in the studio recording.
Some last minute changes were made since several people decided they wanted to do solo performances within the last week.
Oliver performed a piano piece to open the showcase, Aimee, Brodie and Amy all did individual solo performance between bands, too.
