Rehearsal 4

At this point, structure and tempo was a big problem. The drummer needed to be more confident with his part and the rest of the band needed to familiarise ourselves with the structure to the point where we didn’t have to depend on vocals. Dynamic changes were important for the raising the energy during the chorus as it felt dull and repetitive.

Group Evaluation:

As a first run through, I don’t think our overall performance was too bad. The drums were inconsistent and hard to follow, but we kept a steady tempo for the most part and maintained our dynamics well. Our introduction didn’t feel rushed but rather unorganised and our outro felt the same. The second half of the rehearsal did feel rushed as the drums were consistently too fast. Our improvement points would still be matching the original tempo and learning the structure by heart. The lead guitarist gets lost sometimes in the pattern as stamina is an issue and he likely feels rushed due to the drums, but this can be improved by individual practice and practicing as a group to a metronome.

Personal Evaluation:

I was trying to pull the drummer’s speed down to match mine but it didn’t work too well, so I think I sound out of time in some places. The notes I play are just root notes played in a simple pattern as at this point I hadn’t looked at official notation to match the original. I’d like to make my part more complex, as usual, since I think what I’m playing in this rehearsal is too simple and doesn’t match the original.
