Initial Ideas

This was the initial idea. It’s a very simple sketch with notes on what ideas I have to develop it. The concept is using the theme of a raven as the centrepiece using dark colours and layers of paint, while having the background contrast with lime and materials I often use in collages, like sewing, various bits of random card and small pattern designs and different fabrics.

This is the first full sketch using a reference image and the body shape of the first sketch. It’s in a 20×20 box and I bought canvases that could fit 30×30, so I gridded this sketch out by 2x2cm and did the same with the canvas with 3×3, labelling the side with 1-10 and top with A-J.

I took this photo on the 5th of May because the clouds were unusually dark and it looked like the clouds were being held up on a platform with two strings behind it all.

The frame isn’t perfectly equal, nor is the moon centred, but this captures the general ideas I had. I took the original photo and cropped it, then put a halftone line filter on top of the image, as well as a saturation layer at 30% opacity. I cut out both layers on the sides to create contrast and a frame effect. I’d like to find a way to feature writing for the song title.
