On the official wiki page, Asgore is said to be a kind and often quiet yet upbeat monster. However, after watching gameplay and the moments after the battle, his actions as a leader and desire to kill humans is fueled by his son’s death to a human and the want for liberation of the underground.
I’d say the track feels like a strong attempt and desire for liberation based on the ascending melody and the texture building and dropping out at different parts. In context, it fits as a final boss theme, particularly for the story behind it.
In comparison, my own composition feels emptier due to the original song’s huge range of instrumentation and higher tempo. It lacks the heightened emotion effect because of this, but I understood that Asgore isn’t an evil character and chose to keep the mood bright yet tense.
