Project Evaluation

Was research sufficient and relevant?

I think my research was plentiful and detailed and I enjoyed researching 8-bit music and electronic music in particular. I struggled to complete research on some topics as I don’t know how to reference properly and information was hard to find. Song and lyric analysis under the band composition section was really helpful for understanding how chorus lyrics are usually written in comparison to verses and how to break a song up into different parts in order to identify what chords are played when and what key it’s in based on those chords.

What else could I have researched?

I’d like to look into other people’s electronic music compositions online to see the range of what you can create and look at live instrument recording versions to compare them. A case study on more 80s game music could have been beneficial and fun.

Have I improved since last project on anything?

Possibly evidencing my work. I have a lot more to talk about in this project, partially because of the way it’s split into three but also because I’ve uploaded audio recordings, screenshotted most things, uploaded practical videos of initial ideas, taken photos of written work and evaluated small details of my work.

How well did I organise my work and time?

I don’t think I managed my time well. I spent deadline day finishing off several pages and panicking that it wouldn’t get done. I need to review my time management and properly plan out what I need to do in the future.

Further skill development – how do I aim to do this? Why do I plan to do this?

I want to gain more experience using Ableton and possibly experiment with Logic more to see if it’s a lack of understanding that is preventing me from liking it.

Did I enjoy using Logic and Ableton?

Ableton was a stress free project and it felt very easy to use, but I couldn’t use Logic effectively and found it easier to work on other software and transfer work over.

Any ideas for future projects?

I’d like to record my own music using Ableton using direct input from instruments, samples and my own voice. I want to include complex vocal harmony in a personal project, perhaps in an acoustic cover of a song.
