Final project
For my final project I have produced a bedazzled tea set which incorporates my Pakistani and British culture combined. The tea coming from my British side and the jewels coming from my Pakistani side. I have previously tested out my idea on a smaller version of the tea cup and have seen what works and what doesn’t.
Evaluation
For my final teacup and pot I used recycled materials such as cups, chocolate boxes and yogurt pot for the handle. I decided to go with the recycling paper due to how El Anatasui relates his pieces to his ethnicity and country so I followed in pursuit and proceeded to do the same as it links in with my culture and how even in our country our streets continue to be used as trash bins. I decided to paper Mache my teacup and pot to make it smoother. I then used white paint and coated them both so the gold paint can show more and no parts are darker or lighter than the other. I became influenced and used both my researched artists Nadia Chhotani (who inspired my bejewelled part and have used her design on it) and Martin Parr (Although I didn’t take photos, I made the teacup by hand and photographed the final product linking in with his photography). I did struggle with how I was going to make the teapot floating and had no idea how to proceed with that idea. But then I decided to use the tea funnel for the pot and used a coat hanger to proceed with it and used ribbons (as the tea being poured into the cup) and hid it beneath so it really looks like its floating. At first, I just thought to make a bedazzled cup but I thought it would look incomplete so I decided to further develop that idea and make a tea set and even added last minute a sponge cake to really originate back to my British side to balance it out. I even put it on top of a lazy Susan to give it a platform. I have learnt throughout the process that your end vision will never go as planned and I have learnt how to use recycled materials to create something beautiful and have even learnt how to assemble pieces I couldn’t before. I could improve on making it look more neat and natural and even how to differently assemble it together. I think the floating and the gold spray paint really made it shine through and brought my piece together in the end.
