week 1 Monday –
On Monday morning we went through some of the scripts and it was fun to read as they sounded exciting to me the storyline and the plot is about a unique story about fairytales. Grimm’s tales are stories about famous characters such as Snow White, Cinderella, Little Riding Red Hood, Rapunzel, Frog Prince, and Rumpelstiltskin. But in our version of these stories, they have been changed and all those characters have forgotten who they are and their lives have changed in the new story. First, it starts with 2 characters called Carly and Will their brother and sister and they live together with their step-mom Faye. But she isn’t the best to them both. There’s a lot that goes on in the story but that’s just a brief quick version of some of the tale.
Tuesday –
This is Act 1 scene 1 we were going through when Lord Bosemann is trying to take over the world so we are called upon as Cinder, Snow, Red, and Stiltskin by both of the brothers Grimm. To try and defeat the big boss and of course Thoth his sidekick who is always by his side. I think that it was fun to try to figure out what we have to do and go through it as a group. I understood what I had to do and I was paying very good attention to my peers Alex H took good charge of everything alongside Alex peacock. Our lines are quite fun in this section my line is “Rapunzel here. This girl is soft, strong, and very, very long!” After saying that I have to pose in a fighting position and after everyone has said their lines we all charge at Bosemann Shouting “AHHHHHH!!!!!”.
Meanwhile, we were doing that Olivia was working on Jailhouse Rock with Tara, Rose, Lucas, and Hollie. I didn’t see most of it since I’m not in the dance. But I could hear the music and the song is a good choice as it’s for little red ridding hood and she is in jail so Cinders, Snow, Stiltskin, Carly, and Will are attempting to break her out which works perfectly. When I watched a run of the dance it looked good there was a lot of choreography.
this is where we are frozen by Bosemann so she can tell the beginning of the story.
We started choreographing We go together
Wednesday – When we got into the classroom we did a focused warm-up with Harry which we do every morning he told us to think about not being nervous and to think about our voices by closing our eyes and being in focus. Then we did a practice with Oliver which was good we usually dance to Dr. Love but now we have added a new routine to our workout to a song called discovery channel. It was light hearted and fun Oliver did a great join of controlling the space.
I think I want to improve my confidence to lead the warm-up sessions I did have a go with Oliver mainly leading though.
In the afternoon after lunch Level, 4 students from performing arts came in to teach us A Twelfth Night by Shakespeare and we tried a scene and changed it into other styles and compared them, to be honest, I don’t find Shakespeare that exciting or enjoyable for me but I would give it a go and try new things but my thoughts on it is that it is slow and I just don’t understand it.
week 2
Monday: we did a physical warm-up with Oliver and a focused exercise Harry it helped me warm up my body and I was ready for the day. we also blocked some scenes for Act 1 scene 4 which was Cinder’s part of the script I’m not in that scene but it was nice to watch the blocking happen and organize. Then we started revolting children this dance took a lot of time to create but it started off slow the dance needed a lot of work. Olivia and Tara created all of the routine. we went through scrapbooks and did a bit.
Tuesday: we finished the first half of revolting children which was good and we did it with the lights on and I think it went very well I found it hard at first but as I got used to it the first half started to look alright.
Reflections week 3
The front-of-house team put on teams that the 6 pm show was full. Which I was happy about because it’s good to have a full audience that makes the show feel more special. And for the 2 pm one we had 43 seats left to fill up so the 6 pm is more full and busier.
Also, there was a meeting with David Ayres who created the story and the script. But I don’t think I attended the meeting but I imagine it was useful.
We also performed the dance We go together from the musical Grease under the Lights for the first time and it was excellent the dance went really well and was a very energetic dance we haven’t practiced singing it while dancing which I was worried about doing through the whole show but we hadn’t gotten to that yet but the dance was a success.
We completed the Revolting children’s dance routine as well we used chairs and did a formation of movement it was a success and one of my favourite dances we created well Olivia created all the routines but I did help with ideas as well.
And for me, we started to block my scene but I had to go to Maths or English and it was very difficult to focus on it because I would always have to leave mid-way. But Act 2 needed loads of work. I also listened to my solo song I haven’t heard it before but it sounded all right the song was called Waving Through a Window from the musical Dear Evan Hansen. But at home, I practiced the karaoke version I was trying to get it into my head so I could sing it. The song goes well with Rapunzel because she is locked in a tower with no doors or stairs but only 1 little window to look out and sing from.
