For this rehearsal I was unfortunately absent, but I do believe that the band made some good decisions like sticking in the key of D major. I think this was a good key to use because it only has 2 sharps in it ( F# and C# ) so it won’t be too complex to make a catchy chord progression. I also believe that this key suites the singers voice the best. We have utilised the catchy 1, 6, 4, 5 chord progression which may be common but less is more when you’re all trying to make a song for the first time, also you clearly can’t go wrong with a chord progression like this.
Today was my first rehearsal with the band, we managed to get a chorus down and a catchy melodic bass line. I also helped the guitarist with his strumming pattern. As a band we are now at the point where we have all of the sections down and we just need to decide an order, weather its going to be an acoustic or electric song and the actual BPM of the song depending on if its acoustic or electric. Unfortunately the video recorded today was recorded in slow motion by accident so you can’t really make out the audio.
In todays plan we are now at a point when we have all the parts of the song down and we need to chose an order. I think that well go with the order of:
- Intro
- Verse
- Pre
- Chorus
- Verse
- Pre
- Chorus
- Verse
- Quiet Pre
- Extended chorus
think this variety is effective because it will give the song a wide range of variety whist also having a decent length, this will also give us the opportunity to add a wide range of dynamics to the song.
The video above is our first ever performance of this song to a small crowd. I think this went alright but not amazing, this is because people kept forgetting where they are in the song and we were going in and out of time. think most of our problems can be solved by simply just practicing the song and running through our weakest points.
In this performance we decided to make an acoustic rendition of the song. For the most part the song went well, it’s just that we need to finish the lyrics and make a good drum beat so that we don’t have to do this acoustic.
