Video Game Music Analysis

The composition Metal crusher by toby fox is the 50th track of the Undertale videogame, with a key of G sharp Minor and a BPM of 116. I really enjoy listening to this composition because it is very intense as it is played over the top of a boss battle in game. This makes the player of the video game feel stressed and worried as they are fighting the boss. This music is practically all made-up of retro synth and other synth like instruments. This piece has a massive dynamic range at the start when everything comes in, my favourite part of this song is the repetitive melody that features a focal point on the 4th repetition of every phrase. The time signature of this piece is 4/4.

Chirp by C418 was released in the 2013 Minecraft update. The key of this song is C major with a BPM of 110. To play this track in game you had to get hold of a music disc. As a kid growing up playing this game I really enjoy listening to this track as it is quite nostalgic. The purpose of the composition is for the player of the game to have a music disc that they can play whenever they like. The instrumentation of this composition consists of synths and pianos. In this piece that they are not much dynamics as there is no change in volume, this piece is also quite repetitive.

The composition named fallen down by Toby fox is in the key of D major with a bpm of 109. The whole point of this song is to create a sad mood for the game player. despite the sadness of this song, I quite like to listen to it because it is calming and relaxing. The instrumentation of this piece is mainly synthesisers and keyboards. This piece also has a mid-range of dynamics with the bass line in being brought in and out. The main noticeable bit of this piece is the ambience of the chords and the melody.
