Equipment

In this section of my project I will talk about what equipment I am going to use for the final gig at the symposium bar in Idle, I will also talk about why I am using this equipment and the certain features and specifications of each piece of equipment and how much all of this gear costs. Fortunately for me, I already own all of this equipment before I had any idea of starting an acoustic duo because I used to do acoustic gigs back in 2019 before lockdown so this project won’t really cost me any money like my last final project last year, if anything this project will benefit me because I will make money from the gigs.

This is a Yamaha Stage pass 400BT PA system with will be plenty loud enough for an acoustic gig, I also like how the Desk inserts into one of the backs of the speakers with makes this one lass thing to carry and quite compact especially for a small car. Overall this is defiantly a very reliable system and here’s what I found on the Yamaha website:

400-watt, portable PA system with 8-channel powered mixer, two 8″ speakers, a Bluetooth® input, SPX digital reverbs, an onboard feedback suppressor and versatile EQ.

  • 400W (200W + 200W) power output
  • High quality speakers (LF:8″ woofer/ HF:1″ voice coil compression driver)
  • Detachable 8-channel mixer (4 mono/line + 4 mono / 2 stereo line)
  • Bluetooth® audio streaming
  • 1-Knob Master EQ™ with virtual bass boost
  • High resolution SPX digital reverbs (4 types, parameter control)
  • Onboard feedback suppressor
  • Great-sounding 2-band channel EQ
  • Switchable stereo/ mono inputs
  • Hi-Z (high impedance) inputs
  • Phantom power
  • Monitor and Subwoofer outputs
  • Optional reverb footswitch

This is the Roland cube Street EX, I won’t actually be using this in the final gig but I can definatly see us using this in the future for smaller gigs or if we ever go busking in a town centre, this is because you can power this entire system off a battery pack which will actually last for a full gig

Here’s what I found on there website:

With its compact size and battery-powered operation, Roland’s CUBE Street was a huge hit among traveling musicians. Now, the new CUBE Street EX infuses the popular mobile amp with a huge performance upgrade that delivers more projection, more channels, and more versatility. 50 big watts of power and a stereo speaker system with dual woofers and tweeters provide clean, punchy sound for larger crowds, while four independent channels offer abundant connections for a variety of mics and instruments. Detailed sound adjustment is available with separate EQ and reverb controls, and great guitar tones are dialed in easily with the onboard COSM amps. Selectable power modes provide up to 20 hours of operation with eight AA batteries, and two CUBE Street EX units can be linked together for more sound coverage if needed. And with i-CUBE LINK, you can even plug in your iPhone or iPad to play backing music and record your performances!

  • Innovative new Roland technology provides 50 watts of stereo power from eight AA-size batteries
  • Selectable output power modes to optimize battery life for different performing situations (Max: 50 W/5 hours; Normal: 25 W/10 hours; Eco: 10 W/20 hours*)
  • Portable, lightweight design (7.4 kg/16 lb. 5 oz.) with durable ABS injection-molded cabinet
  • Powerful, full-range stereo sound with dual 8-inch woofers and 2-inch tweeters
  • Four independent channels for connecting a variety of mics, instruments, and audio devices
  • Two XLR mic inputs allow two vocalists to perform at once
  • COSM tones for electric guitar, including Clean, Crunch, and Lead; preamp for acoustic guitar provides clean, natural sound
  • Angled back for use as a stage monitor; mounting hole for use with optional ST-A95 Speaker Stand
  • Stereo Line Out jacks for connecting to an external sound system when used as a stage monitor
  • Stereo Link jacks to connect a second CUBE Street EX for broader sound coverage
  • Easy recording into your iPhone/iPad via i-CUBE LINK and free CUBE JAM app
  • Optional CB-CS2 Carrying Case made with water-repellent material

One of the main pieces of gear that I will need its a decent quality microphone, this is why I chose the industry standard sure SM58 with a switch, personally I don’t think that you can go wrong with these mics as long as you look after them, I am not a singer but I can defiantly tell the difference between this and a cheaper microphone in a live performance. all I will need to use this is a male to female XLR lead which will just go straight to the microphone line in the desk.

XLR Male to Female

For my guitar I will need an electro acoustic that I can also plug in to the stage pass PA system, I actually bought this guitar in 2019 from the money that my grandad left me and over the years this guitar has gave me some great experiences playing live at pubs, bars, festivals and other events, This guitar has a fishman preamp which is solid with an inbuilt tuner and takes one 18V battery. Overall this will always be my go to acoustic.

The other leads that I will need is one power lead for the desk and two mono jack leads with plastic ends for the speakers to hook up to the desk, so overall this is a really easy/portable setup for us two to use when were out gigging which is a really convenient good thing because in the other band that I play in we literally have two big bags just for leads alone and being in an acoustic duo requires much less equipment.

Finally the last piece of equipment that I will need are stands for the microphone and the speakers, I also have a big bag that will fit all of these for easy transportation and the speaker stands can be set to a different height depending on the size of the venue.
