Band Rehearsals

In the first rehearsal of I wish, it was basically everyone learning their parts and running verses into choruses and getting everyones phrasing correct. I don’t think that this sounds bad for a first rehearsal as a band, but things could definitely be tighter, I think that we should have some more band communication and awareness of each other in general, I feel like this would definitely make us sound more tighter and well put together. Personally I don’t think that the bass line of this song was too hard but it’s Moree just getting the phrasing down and putting more dynamics into the song as a whole. I also think that we had a problem with the drummer slowing down and speeding cop but I believe that this could be fixed by everyone listening to each other and the song as a whole rather than trying so hard to play there individual parts. Overall I am satisfied with how we sound as this is the first time that we’ve played together but there is definitely room for improvement.

In the two videos above this is the bands second rehearsal session, In these sessions we are just trying to run the different sections of the song into each other whilst sounding smooth, I also feel like in this session we got a lot tighter aspart from the fact that there was still a few mishaps with the tempo changing and different sections, I feel like at this point we would only just get by if Nic didn’t tell us what sections to go into at a certain time, overall these rehearsals are going well but at this point Nic is helping us all and helping out quite a lot. There is definitely still room for improvement.

Personally I think that this was the most challenging song to learn out of the three because it had some parts in like the bass solo and the slap verse that were quite hard to learn. The main struggle that we had as a band in the rehearsals for this song was the timing, more specifically the timing of stabs in the song, going from verses to choruses and the timing of the ending. Yet again I still think that we all need to be more aware of each other and I also think that the singer needs to be more confident in himself because he sounds a bit shy and quiet in parts, I think that this is because that this song is out of his comfort zone. I also think that we all need to become aware of the dynamics in the song, an example of this is in the bridge, in the bridge the dynamics should come down quite a lot, I believe that we are going to watch these videos back and hopefully before the performance we will start to include more phrasing and dynamics whilst being aware of each other at the same time.

For the final song we decided to learn uptown funk, despite this song sounding easy to play I struggled with a few cues near the end of the song, we also did a small medley with sweet dreams mixed into this song to get people dancing and clapping along. despite the singers singing sweet dreams I am playing the bass line of seven nation army because they have more or less the same bass line, this might confuse the audience but it all sounded great during rehearsals when it was put together. Yet again the only problems we had as a band were it sounded like some guitars intonation was out, we kept missing cues and the tempo kept increasing and decreasing by now I think that we were all aware of these issues but we haven’t had that many rehearsals as its our year that are planning and putting together the event. I do think that by now we are all aware of these issues and by the performance we should have them fixed.
