Project 3: Reflections

WEEK 1

In week one, we watched all of the episodes we would be working on, We started off with watching Friends episodes and discussing what happened in them both. We then moved onto watching the inside no9 episodes and discussing what happened between them, both shows were completely different as ‘friends’ is an American sitcom Tv series whereas ‘inside no9’ is a dark comedy British Tv series. We then got our scripts and split into 4 groups. Each group had a script they had to memorize and perform for tv acting. We chose our characters based on personalities that would be easier to play.

Week 2

When we came back after Christmas, we began blocking the scenes from beginning to end figuring out what we could do to improve the script. We changed some parts within the script so it wasn’t so rude. From week 2 and onwards we did as much rehearsal as possible because we didn’t have much time to do everything we needed including production elements for the opposite group. Later in the week, we went on a trip to the Tv studio to figure out where we would be working and what space we had for set. While up in the Tv studio, we got to learn about the cameras and what we would be working with in the booth.

week 3

In week 3, we continued to rehearse to get the performance on point. At some point within the week, We went for a patch test to make sure all the products being used were okay on our skin. After our patch test, we were able to fit a makeup mock run in while the friends groups were filming, this helped us a lot because the makeup girls had a bit of practice before the actual performance so they could take their time to get it right. After our makeup runs we worked on production elements. This consisted 0f discussing lighting, set and placement within the script. We worked on developing the script by taking bits out and adding small things in to make other things make sense.

Week 4

Week 4 was filming week, we spent the whole week rehearsing over the entire scene so we were ready for the performance. One issue we had was absence, many people were off and we only had one 1 run through as a group without a stand in. This meant we didn’t know timing for each other and things like the fake laugh we couldn’t work on. We continued to do the best with the people we had there to make sure it was going to be okay. On the day of filming, we went into makeup to do the final look. For my look, it was a simple makeup look as my character (Anya) was a waitress. It was a flushed look as my character was in and out of the kitchen. Once we finished the makeup, we made our way up to the tv studio. When we got up there we set up lighting and plotted where the cameras would go. We moved the set around a few times to make sure everything was in place. 2 of our actors didn’t turn up so we had to have stand ins for the characters. We filmed the scene multiple times on each camera so we had multiple shots to choose from. Once we filmed a few of the shots, the makeup crew came in for touch up so we looked the same the whole way through. Once we finished filming the whole thing, We watched the scenes over to make sure we were happy and to make sure we didn’t wanna refilm any of it. We then headed back to class to talk about the editing part of the project.
