Final song and evaluation

This is the final mix of the song our band performed in the studio while Aimee and Isobel recorded us. I boosted the distortion on Jozef’s guitar a little bit but i also put a compressor on this guitar to lessen the amount that the high note rings out. I did not want these notes to ring out super loud so i used the compressor to dial down the irritating squeal. I’ve also put an amp onto the vocals to give it that budget live performance type vibe. Seen as though this is the first time for me making a song and mixing it i wanted it to reflect that in my mix by making it seem genuine and beginner level mix.

When we recording, Gideon kept on messing up the drum beat at the end of the song, and we were taking so many takes for him to get it right we were running out of time that we planned so we kept the best one he did. In the take we ended up keeping he only messed up near the end of the track so i cut out the drums at that point and it didn’t seem to sound that bad with the drums cut out. I added an EQ to the kick to boost the low frequencies to make a harder kick and boosted the mid ones so you can hear the kick pedal hit the drum to create a live sounding atmosphere. I added an EQ to the snare to take out the bass and boost the actual snare sound. I also added an EQ to the overheads to boost the high frequencies and take out the bass seen as though the overhead mics were there to capture the hihat and the cymbals.

When i was mixing Jozef’s guitar, i added an EQ to take out the low frequencies because he is the lead guitarist and plays high notes to compliment the melody. I added a digital amp effect to boost the distortion a little bit because it sounded better when i was messing with it. And i also added a compressor because i wanted to make it a bit louder but i didn’t want the loud notes to be ear piercing. And when i was mixing my guitar i put an EQ on and suppressed the very low frequencies to make it have less bass but not too much so it still has some thickness to it. and then i put on a digital clean amp onto it as well. But for the bass i only added an amp because it was recorded through a DI ( digital input) .

For the vocals, i used the EQ to cut out frequencies outside his vocal range and boosted his vocal range to make it sound brighter. I also put his vocals through a clean preamp to give it a live sound vibe. I put on some stereo delay to give it a tiny bit of delay. I added space designer to make it all stick together better and then finally i added a limiter to make the vocals louder but not have a high gain so it boosts the volume without losing the tone.
