This is my Ableton produced song that i made this project. I once again found a sample that i wanted to create into a song. I originally wanted to use this sample to crate a trap beat, but whilst i was messing about with different drum kits to find the one i wanted to use, I found one that wasn’t sounding good for trap but I played a little drum beat on the midi keyboard and it sounded good and matched the vibe i was going for better than a trap beat would ever have. So after I created the drum lines, I plugged my guitar into the DI and learnt the sample. I then used them same chords in different octaves to create a better sound, having different strumming patterns and playing single notes from the chords helped add style. I also thought having two different basses would help add variation. When i was near completion i extracted chords from the sample to midi and put the instrument as a piano and it sounded too good to not incorporate it into my song. So i added it to the start and finish of the song. This also made it have a more elegant finish to the song, plus i modified what the piano chords were to make it sound like its slowly slowing down towards the end.
I have learnt more about Ableton in tis project, like how to record audio into it and also sequence it all. I also learnt how to extract bass, drums, and melodies out of samples to figure out what key its in and make bass patterns that will match the rest of the song. I learnt how to play the sample so i could use the chords to add more ambience to it. i layered some guitar tracks playing the same chords in different octaves to add more depth. I added a breakdown feel and a build up part as-well, The second chorus plays normally but then follows up with another chorus thats got doubled up drums with two different drum kits to make it louder and more energetic. In further projects I want to work more on playing in key and sequencing everything on a deeper level because in this song the guitars that i have recorded in don’t harmonise how i wanted them to. The guitar recordings are not the best quality they could be because i used a DI instead of recording in the studio using an amp and microphone. I think next time i will record like that in the studio and use actual amp/pedal effects instead of audio effects supplied by Ableton. Overall i’m happy with the way this song came out but i know i could make it better so i might work on it in my own time next term.
