This is my final product.
Initially I started this film project wanting to do the James Bond scene from Casino Royale but whilst working on it and coming up with some ideas I found myself a sound that would make a great ambient track but that didn’t really fit the theme of the film so I decided to switch my film scene and use the temporal distortion scene instead. I chose this scene because it was a calming video that was just aesthetically pleasing so i thought i could make a song to kind of match that vibe. When i started working on this song I struggled to make the piano line match up with the guitar I recorded because it was out of time, so i deleted both tracks and started again. This time however I created a piano loop of the notes I’m playing on guitar so i could sequence it and keep in time while playing the guitar. I then used a digital bass to make the bass line, I duplicated the piano part and removed all the notes except for the root notes to create a basic bass line that was alright for me at first but later on whilst working on the song i couldn’t bare how basic it was. So I used the same pattern i’ve used in the past. It’s like playing a more rhythmic bass line, Playing a note for the first three beats and then repeating the note on the forth beat to prepare the listener for the next chord. I also recorded a number of guitar tracks to play along side each-other. One is of me playing the chords while palm muting, one is playing then note by note, and the third is me playing bar chords an octave higher. I needed to come up with a build up area like a normal song, It’s not as smooth as id hoped but its alright. Same with the ending, i thought of a really cool way to end it but I didn’t have enough time to create a part between the main and the end parts so it doesn’t sound as great as i wanted it to.
Over all i had a lot of fun producing this song for this scene. I had a lot of practice experimenting with sounds and effects. I like using Logic Pro X to record and produce because i like the way you can mix on it. I prefer this over Ableton. I hope to improve on my skills in sequencing and making beats in general. There’s a whore bunch of things i need to improve on in this area of my music abilities.
