Final Perfomance

This is our final performance, the one we have been working towards for 5 weeks. This performance was really good in my opinion, we performed the first song (Drake – Hold on, we’re going home) and it was amazing on stage. I felt really groovy and used the nervousness as adrenaline to have fun and vibe with it. while playing this song I noticed that the band were all looking confident and we’re comfortable on stage. We performed This song really well, we could’ve done it better but it was really good for 5 weeks of practicing.

Then we had a change over to swap some instruments, this change over was pretty smooth to be quite honest, it wasn’t the fastest but it was smooth.

Then we played the second song, Outkast – Ms Jackson. I played bass guitar for this song, I’m not really good at playing bass so I made many many mistakes. We did play this song quite well from the audiences point of view. We knew the song quite well but we did struggle with the breakdown part in rehearsals before the show and I think we resolved it properly before the showcase. The ending was not as good as we hoped it would be but it was still good enough that the audience couldn’t notice it was not as intended.

Then there was another changeover where I switched back to guitar for the third and final song for our band. This changeover went pretty smoothly too but took longer because more people changed instruments at this time.

Then we indulged the crowd with our last song, the start of the song was a bit slow. I was waiting for marcel to start playing the tempo on the hi-hat because otherwise i would go out of time, but I don’t think he realised that we we’re starting until a few seconds later. Once we did start the song, it sounded really good and from my point of view the crowd did like the song a-lot. It went really well and we all knew our parts really well, it was electric on stage during this song and we were all having fun playing it, it was the best song on our set list that we all really liked playing. When we got to the ending of that song, we ended it off with the slow-down of chords like we rehearsed. But we wanted to do this thing that we improvised in one of our rehearsals.

This is a video of the sped up jam session thingy that we wanted to do at the end of the song because it seemed super fun and energetic to get the crowd excited for the last band. Although we all knew what we were supposed to do it didn’t go quite as well as we planned. As much as I don’t like to blame other people, I must say, I played my part in the right tempo and so did the rest of the band. But Lainnie sang way too fast for the tempo, as in the rehearsals we had the same chord changes at the same times but with a more erratic strumming pattern instead of single strums. So when she started singing it really fast it just sounded so out of time and to be honest we shouldn’t have played it because it was perfect until that happened.
But nevertheless our band did a great performance and exceeded our expectations for the show. I look forward to work with this band in projects 2 and 3.

Then after we played this song, the band got off stage but me and Lainnie stayed on stage to perform our acoustic song.

Me and Lainnie performed an acoustic cover of “something in the orange” by Zach Bryan. This song usually has other instruments as well as the acoustic guitar, but we wanted it to only have one guitar playing rhythm to have Lainnie’s vocals be the main instrument which would showcase her voice and how talented she is. In my opinion this song went perfectly on stage and sounded really cool from our standpoint. I had messed up this song a few hours before the show at the dress rehearsal but I think I nailed the structure and the chord changes when playing it at the main event. Throughout our rehearsals of this song i could never figure out exactly when it switches from verse to chorus so we ended up talking behind stage before the show, we came to an agreement that before it goes into the chorus, Lainnie would give me a little nod or some other kind of gesture to give me a note to switch into chorus. This worked out really Great and it was barely noticeable from the crowd. This was really good to use stage communication especially since we gave been learning how other artists use these forms of communication on stage to show their professional behaviour during shows/gigs. This was a great way to see the perspective of an artist using body language and action communication in use on stage, which i felt very comfortable with using.

Overall the showcase went really good and our band performed well. If we are ever a band again at any point we need to work together a bit to perfect timing and staying together during performing, and a little bit more on stage communication as a whole band because at some points we didn’t change chords when we should of
