Marketing strategy

With my presentation I made sure I got all my points across without adding paragraphs and paragraphs of words for the audience to get bored of. Instead, I added the most important topics and expanded on them.

From the research I did in task one, including trend aware, culture segments, different types of marketing strategies I managed to implement all of them and provide useful information and provide my idea for the museum.

My big idea is interactive art, I want to see the audience to not be still. Many people go to museums to see historical artefacts or see framed paintings, and this is not bad, I do the same, but we need something different for the new generation of technology and art. Technology is evolving right in front of us and it’s important we keep up with todays advancing tech so we can create important pieces for the audience to be emerged in.

I’m working on questions for Nayan, the artists I’m going to be interviewing on the 19th of December. I’ve communicated with the media museum and asked some questions to make sure it goes correctly and confirmed that the date is fine for me. I have chosen a couple of questions ranging from finding out about the artist and questions about the work he does.

Nayan Kulkarni is going to be creating a live video installation for the renovation of the national science and media museum. For the interview I am deciding whether or not to film the interview. I want the interview to be on camera but it may be a little difficult getting the cameras out and being able to travel with the cameras to the museum. I want some sort of recording of the interview so I can go back and evaluate. Another thing I could do is do a voice memo, which is just recording the audio using an app on my phone. I can record each question and answer separately and it is on my phone so it’s easily accessible. I have been told in the email that we’ll be going into an office to do the interview so it should be quiet so I won’t pick up a lot of background noise.

The interview with Nayan is in about two weeks and the questions have been prepared. I know where I’m going, and I have been in contact with Katie through email and Nayan through Instagram. Now, I know what time and how I’m getting there. In the time I have before the interview, I am trying to find out more about the artist so I know more about him and what his art explores.

He is going to be creating a live video installation for the National Science and Media Museum called ‘Circus’. In this interactive art piece, the audience will be in a room that comes to life with captured live video feed of the visitors themselves. My initial idea, what I pitched to Katie and Rebecca, was interactive art, wanting to merge technology and art together. This art piece is exactly what I was imagining and I think this art installation will be something refreshing and new for the audience to see.

Nayan’s work include installations that fill entire buildings or pieces that cover architectural structures. His work is diverse that encompass historical materials and collaborative projects that examine architectures and landscapes. He explores the production of place and atmosphere through light, video and sound installations. This way the audience are immersed fully into the art and are able to experience it fully.

It is an interesting way to portray your artwork. Many artists like to frame their art and present in an exhibition, but Nayan’s artwork is a type that cannot be put in a gallery. His work is made for big structural buildings or a place with high walls and width to show off the full piece.

Combining interactive art and smart technology is a great idea and would interest past and new visitors. Marketing is essential if we want to get the word out and advertise the museum to Bradford. The museum has always been for people of all ages and backgrounds. It’s always been free, and there have been many sections that showcase the history of Bradford and show off new technology. There is always something to be interested in or curious in and it sparks new interests for everyone.

After the interview, I will need to create a blog post that will be made for early next year. I’m thinking of making the blog into a kind of article, where I’ll of course feature the interview with Nayan Kulkarni, talking about his upcoming art work. The article will also include information about the 2025 Bradford city of culture, the museums renovation, the new art pieces, and how the new and improved place will impact our community.

Topics I’ll include:

  • 2025 Bradford city of culture
  • Renovation of the museum
  • His new live video installation for the museum, (and how it’ll change the way people interact with art.)
  • Previous art exhibitions in NSMM

Me and Nayan have interacted on social media and he’s updating me on the work he’s been doing for media museum. For the pictures he provides I’ll be incorporating them into my blog post that I’ll be making early next year.

Nayan light work will be happening until the seventh of January 2024 and the art piece is on the exterior of Sir John Soane’s Museum, which is illuminated by a light installation. This light installation will play every evening till early next year and it is a part of Sir John Soane’s latest exhibition.

I can talk about this artwork in the interview and bring up how this artwork was a product of Sir John Soane’s Museum and ask how he got his inspiration for the NSMM, and the new art piece.

The interview is in five days and i have booked out a zoom audio recorder. I was initially going to record the audio on my phone but I thought it would pick up too much background noise so I decided to book one out. I have an SD card inside of it and it has full battery. I am currently working on research for the artist that I’ll be interviewing.

3/1/24

The interview has been recorded and I managed to get some really good answers from my questions which will be included in my blog post for the museum. I have returned the zoom recorder and put the files on my one drive from the SD card so I can edit the audio on Premiere Pro in college. I was told by Katie that it’s possible to add audio clips into the blog so I’ll be adding little clips so people can hear some of his answers without me putting a big paragraph of his words into quotes.

7/1/24

I have been researching more about Nayan Kulkarni and what videos I can put into the post so people can see his earlier work. I am going to need to convert the videos of his artwork (which are on youtube) into an mp4 file so I can put them into Premiere Pro and edit them.

On Premiere Pro I am going to include the science and media museum logo and the artists name. I want the video to be about 30 seconds to one minute with little clips of his previous artwork.

11/1/24

At the moment I have made a little checklist of what needs to be done. I am aiming to finish the blog by the twentieth of January so I have some time to just look over the post and make sure there’s no spelling errors and that the audio is fine.
