class="wp-block-heading">Chord progression in the ballad of Darren

The Ballad of Darren uses very simple chords to create a melancholic sound

In the song the narcissist where the chords are just E5,Emaj7 repeat and then Aadd9,Asus2 repeat.

I like these chords because they make me feel:Lonely and unhappy but at the same time satisfied and almost joyful.

The song St Charles Square is another example of using simpler chords, the song commonly used the chords G,Bb,A,D and rotate them around through the song.

I like these chords because they make me feel:Almost haunted or tormented which is what the song was going for.

Lyrics on the ballad of Darren

The Narcissist

The lyrics for the narcissist match perfectly with the melody and sound of the song.

Looked in the mirror
So many people standing there
I walked towards them
Into the floodlights

I heard no echo (no echo)
There was distortion everywhere (everywhere)
I found my ego (my ego)
I felt rubato standing there
Found my transcendence (transcendence)
It played in mono-painted blue (painted blue)
You were the Pierrot (the Pierrot)
I was the dark room (the dark room)

I’ma shine a light in your eyes (in your eyes)
You’ll probably shine it back on me
But I won’t fall this time
With Godspeed, I’ll heed the signs

I saw the solstice (the solstice)
The service station on the road (on the road)
I took the acid (the acid)
Under the white horses (the road)
My heart, it quickened (it quickened)
I could not tear myself away (myself away)
Became addiction (addiction)
If you see darkness, look away (look away)

I’ma shine a light in your eyes (look away)
You’ll probably shine it back on me
But I won’t fall this time
With Godspeed I’ll heed the signs

Oh, glorious world (glorious)
Oh, potent waves, valleys gone wild (potent waves)
Connect us to love (us to love)
And keep us peaceful for a while (for a while)

I’ma shine a light in your eyes (for a while)
You’ll probably shine it back on me (for a while)
Yet I won’t fall this time
With Godspeed I’ll heed the signs

I’ma shine a light in your eyes (in your eyes, in your eyes)
You’ll probably shine it back on me (in your eyes)
But I won’t fall this time
With Godspeed I’ll heed the signs
I won’t fall this time
With Godspeed I’ll heed the signs

How these lyrics make me feel and what I think they’re about

I like these lyrics because they make the song feel more sad and emotional when put with the guitar.

I think the song is about someone regretting the things they did and not being able to apologise for what they did.

St Charles Square

The lyrics for St Charles Square mixed perfectly with the song as the haunting music fit very well with the song and its theme of being tormented.

I fucked up
I’m not the first to do it
Must forgo now, your smile
Off the wall, beige
I’m fixtures and fittings now
Call me out, but call me

‘Cause there’s something down here
And it’s living under the floorboards (ah!)
It’s grabbed me ’round the neck with its long and slender claw
Ooh, don’t leave me here, baby, don’t leave me completely
‘Cause I might not get back to myself at all

St. Charles Square
This year’s migration
Basement flat with window bars
Pauli’s outside
Spare me the gloaters and the pain
I don’t want it anymore

‘Cause there’s something down here
And it’s living under the floorboards (ah!)
It’s up and down the clock of the town hall back in time
Oh, I’ll ride with you, baby, I’ll ride with you forever
But we might not get back to ourselves at all, no

Tesco disco
The room is shrinking fast around me
It grabbed me by the ankle and pulled me under
Loneliness, I’ve been here before
‘Cause every generation has its gilded posers

Weird vibrations in the basement
I don’t like this scene
Pauli’s ghost come back to haunt me
Think I’m gonna-

I enjoy these lyrics because

How these lyrics make me feel and what I think the song is about

I like these lyrics because they add to that tense feeling.

I think the song is about making a mistake that you regret so much but you are unable to move on from what you did.

Chord progression in The Bends

The Bends uses simple but effective chords that create a hard hitting but strangely joyful sound.

The chords that are used in the title track are A,C,Cadd9,C7,D,Em,G and G/B.Also some power chords like C5,E5 and Bb5/E

I like these chords because they make me feel:happy and satisfied but at the same time upset and agitated.

The chords that are used in high and dry are G#act,F#act,Eact,Emaj,Esus and Emaj.

I like these chords because they make me feel:quiet, secure and comfortable.

Lyrics in The Bends

The Bends

Lyrics in the title track gives the feeling of euphoria which mixes well with the sound of the song.

Where do we go from here?
The words are coming out all weird
Where are you now when I need you?
Alone on an aeroplane
Falling asleep against the window pane
My blood will thicken

I need to wash myself again
To hide all the dirt and pain
‘Cause I’d be scared
That there’s nothing underneath
And who are my real friends?
Have they all got the bends?
Am I really sinking this low?

My baby’s got the bends, oh no
We don’t have any real friends, no, no, no

I’m just lying in a bar with my drip feed on
Talking to my girlfriend waiting for something to happen
And I wish it was the sixties
I wish I could be happy
I wish, I wish
I wish that something would happen

Where do we go from here?
The planet is a gunboat in a sea of fear
And where are you?
They brought in the CIA
The tanks and the whole marines
To blow me away
To blow me sky high

My baby’s got the bends
We don’t have any real friends

I’m just lying in a bar with my drip feed on
Talking to my girlfriend waiting for something to happen
I wish it was the sixties
I wish I could be happy
I wish, I wish
I wish that something would happen

I wanna live and breathe
I wanna be part of the human race
I wanna live and breathe
I wanna be part of the human race, race, race, race

Where do we go from here
The words are coming out all weird
Where are you now when I need you?

How these lyrics make me feel and what I think the song is about

I like these lyrics because they make feel under pressure which strangely works with the more satisfying sound of the song.

I think the song is about being overwhelmed with what your doing and although you are happy you would prefer not to have this feeling.

High and Dry

Lyrics in High & Dry are melancholic but also comforting.

Two jumps in a week
I bet you think that’s pretty clever
Don’t you boy?

Flying on your motorcycle
Watching all the ground beneath you drop
You’d kill yourself for recognition
Kill yourself to never ever stop

You broke another mirror
You’re turning into something you are not

Don’t leave me high
Don’t leave me dry
Don’t leave me high
Don’t leave me dry

Drying up in conversation
You will be the one who cannot talk

All your insides fall to pieces
You just sit there wishing you could still make love

They’re the ones who’ll hate you
When you think you’ve got the world all sussed out
They’re the ones who’ll spit at you
You will be the one screaming out

Don’t leave me high
Don’t leave me dry
Don’t leave me high
Don’t leave me dry

It’s the best thing that you’ve ever had
The best thing that you’ve ever, ever had
It’s the best thing that you’ve ever had
The best thing you’ve had has gone away

So don’t leave me high
Don’t leave me dry
Don’t leave me high
Don’t leave me dry
Don’t leave me high

Don’t leave me high
Don’t leave me dry

How these lyrics make me feel and what I think this song is about

These lyrics make me feel empty but secure at the same time.

I think the song is about feeling left behind and unhappy with a current relationship.

David Bowie-Space Oddity

<h2 A D major chord plays on the line “God’s love be with you” during the pre-liftoff countdown sequence.

I like these chords because they make me feel alone and make me question my surroundings.

Lyrics

Ground control to Major Tom
Ground control to Major Tom
Lock your Soyuz hatch and put your helmet on!

Ground control to Major Tom
Commencing countdown, engines on
Detach from station and may God’s love be with you

This is ground control to Major Tom
You’ve really made the grade
And the papers want to know whose shirts you wear
But it’s time to guide the capsule if you dare

This is Major Tom to ground control
I’ve left for ever more
And I’m floating in a most peculiar way
And the stars look very different today

For here am I sitting in a tin can far above the world
Planet Earth is blue and there’s nothing left to do

Though I’ve flown one hundred thousand miles
I’m feeling very still
And before too long I know it’s time to go
A commender comes down back to Earth and rolls

Ground control to Major Tom
The time is near, there’s not too long
Can you hear me, Major Tom?
Can you hear me, Major Tom?
Can you hear me, Major Tom?
Can you

Here am I floating in my tin can
last glimpse of the world
Planet Earth is blue and there’s nothing left to do

I like these lyrics because they match perfectly with the sound of the song and further cement the feeling of being alone.

How these lyrics make me feel and what I think this song is about

I like these lyrics because they make me feel lonely and unable to find help.

I think this song is about wanting help and not being able to get any, leaving you unsure of your situation.

Chord progression in the ballad of Darren The Ballad of Darren uses very simple chords to create a melancholic sound In the song the narcissist where the chords are just E5,Emaj7 repeat and then Aadd9,Asus2 repeat.
