Project 2: Research

A Christmas Carol – We are doing a stage performance of A Christmas Carol.

This is Charles Dickens the author of A Christmas Carol

Charles Dickens: Charles Dickens was a English author. When he was 12, he was forced to work in a factory. In total he wrote 15 novels,5 novellas and hundreds of short stories and non-fictional articles. After his sister-in-law died, he made sure to make sure all of his characters survive. He performed a Christmas carol at st Georges Hall.

The Victorian era/Poverty: A Christmas Carol was published in 1843 which was during the Victorian era. The Victorian period ran from 1837 to 1901. 35% of people were living in poverty. With wages of 75p a week or less like 25p per week. Children worked from the age of 3/4 and weren’t taught to read or write. There were no nhs or healthcare services. Most poverty was caused by pollution and over population.

The Delius church: The Delius church was made in 1887 and founded by in 1998 by Art works creative communities. It can hold up 125 people in it.

We did some research into a christmas carol posters and tickets to get inspired when we make our own tickets.

These are the ticket ideas that me and another member of my team came up with. They are drafts awe are thinking of number 4 for the final result, but we haven’t decided yet.

Mrs Cratchit: My character is Mrs Cratchit, to get a clear understanding on who my character is i went on google to get an idea of who my character was.

Mrs Cratchit is the wife to Bob Cratchit and the mother to their children. She would be classed as middle class, she’s poor but not too poor. She is a kind caring person who does the best by her family and has a strong hatred for scrooge. This will help me portray this character through my facial expressions and projection.

For Mrs. Cratchits costume i looked online at various costumes and found one that i liked and that i thought was doable.

For my costume i got a long sleeve green dress as they didn’t have a one in blue. (The dress cost £18). Then i got a bonnet and apron from a fancy dress shop (£3, £5) finally i got some rose buttons and a piece of lace fabric and had the buttons and collar sewn in (£4, £5). All together the costume cost around £35.

fo mrs cratchits hair i went on google and looked at her hair
