Project 1: Planning and production

Week 1

On Monday of week one we got given our stimulus which is about sustainability. We then discussed what sustainability means to us. To further our knowledge about sustainability we received a piece of paper which contained facts and information about the world and climate change. With this we created small piece’s about a variety of issues such as water pollution, littering etc. On Wednesday we worked with dance united where we worked on various of different dance styles and techniques.

This is us during the dance united workshop.

We also started on some chair duets and continued to develop them throughout the sessions by adding more movement and story to them. Since we had to make them about sustainability each group had different stories, such a smoking, mining, deforestation and forest fires.

Group 1: smoking Group 3: Deforestation

Group 2: forest fire Group 4 : mining

Week 2

We worked on further developing and adding more movements to our chair peices and developing a flow so that we can repeat and make sense of it. On Tuesday we brought in childrens toys and wrote letters to the children of our futures, we wrote about our worries and hope for their future. One by one we enter the stage with lights and our toys and we presented the audience with our statements. With different images based on the world such as fire and tornados we created small group dances and performed them in our places.

My toy and My letter to the child and worry about climate change.

This is us with our toys and lights reading out our worries.

My groups dance. For the image we had fire so we created movement to incorporate a fire.

Our group dance all put together.

Our smoking duet we developed it by adding for movement and making it flow more.

Week 3

We had to change our chair groups by adding new people, which ment that we had to change the theme of it aswell, so the topics we decided on were vaping, fast fashion and driving, this ment that my group had to re start ours from scratch. We were also given scripts, that we would have to say during the performance.

The script that we are reading, I highlighted and sectioned of the sentences, to make me remember them easier, by repeating the sentence again and again then saying it all together.

We also created a dance that is more cheerful and happy for the end, to contrast to the dance from the beginning. In groups we all created little sections to add on to a choreographed dance that we learned.

The group dance that we will perform at the end.

Week 4

We focused many on rehearsing making sure that everything was going well and looked well. We also started doing everything together in order rather than doing it all separately. We also created a small segment about social media and how people are obsessed with social media.

Rehearsal for the dance at the end.

Week 5

This was the week of our performance so we practiced and practiced. At the last minute we added poems about mother nature and the power of the Internet to our phone segment.

This was the poem that I read out, In order to help me understand it better I put marks next to when I start and stop my lines again. I also kept pronouncing the word wrath wrong when I was reading it, so to help me I crossed the word out an wrote it in a way that will be easier for me to pronounce.

Running order:

Scene one: Walked on with our toys and said our worries, letters and facts about the world and climate change. And our first dance.

Scene 2: Chair peices, fast fashion, driving then vaping.

Scene 3: Chair peices about social media which lead to the movement peices on plastic.

Scene 4: The happy dance.

Props:

– children’s toys

-phones

-torches/mini fake candles

Risk assessment:

Sound:

  • When I grow up from the musical matilta -for the final dance, it’s happy and uplifting
  • Phone ping sound affect – during the social media segment, this is to show that people are constantly on there phones.
  • Sound of wind – during the phone segment when the poem about nature is being read, this shows the contrast between the two poems as the phone ping and the wind are played after each other.
  • Thunder- during the opening, this draws the audience in and sets the mood for the show, it also blends with the soundscrape of rain that we make.
  • imagine by John Lennon- used in the first dance to create a sad atmosphere, contrast to the last dance.

Lighting-miminalistic, flashing to create lightning affect, and spotlights on us when we are performing that dim when we are not. We also used torch light to show the toys at the beginning and we used them again at the end.

Screenshots of the lighting during the actual performance.
