Where is my mind is a beautiful, emotional track written by the American alternative rock band ‘The Pixies. It is the 7th track on the band’s debut album ‘Surfer Rosa’ which was written in 1988. It is the band’s most famous song. The song was ranked at number 498 in Rolling Stones’ ‘500 greatest songs of all time’.
The song is best known for its feature at the end of the 1999 film Fight Club’ which stars Edward Norton and Brad Pitt in a gut-wrenching story about an Insomniac who finds peace and tranquility in an underground fight club. The song fits perfectly with the end scene of the film where the main character and his love interest (marla Singher) are watching all of the central banks in America blow up as part of a scheme he created called’ Project Mayhem’. The song fits perfectly with the chaotic yet tranquil scene.
The track is in E Major and has a key signature of 4 sharps. The sharps are F#, G#, D#, and C#. The song starts off with the 1 chord and then the 6 chord, the 3 chords, and then the 4 chord. That is the structure and chord progression for the intro/verse. The chorus consists of the 1 chord, then the third, and finally the 4th chord twice. The guitar solo starts off with the 6th chord and then carries on with the fifth until the end of the section. The 3 chord is a Major 3 which is used to build tension, this creates a certain atmosphere in the song and plays along nicely with the vibe they are going for.
The song is played at 81 bpm which can also be used at double-time at 162 bpm or half-time at 40 bpm. the track runs at 3 minutes and 57 seconds and has a major mode. It has a time signature of 4 beats per minute.
