As far as mock performances go, this went really well. We made very little mistakes, and the mistakes we did make wouldn’t even be noticeable if didnt stop and look at eachother. The overall performance from not just our band but all the other bands was extremely promising. We were well and truly ready to do the dress rehearsal.
In terms of preparation and rehearsal I am disappointed. If we had the rehearsal time that the other bands had then we could have been truly great. But unfortunately due to illness, and having to plan the event in itself, we didn’t have this luxury. But judging by our performance, it is clear people have gone away and learned their own parts. By this point everything was starting to click.
As a band, we did quite well on the stage presence front. One of our songs relies solely on audience participation. We are one of the only bands that does this in such a big way. I would say ours stage presence is great, but could still use a little bit of work.
For the most part we maintained the tempo of all songs. There wasn’t much rushing or dragging, this is props to our drummer. Unlike the rehearsals, we had very minimal problems with the starting and finishing of the songs. We spent quite a lot of our rehearsal time on the ending of the songs, so this is why they run so smoothly now. The only problem I found is that Uptown Funk was played slightly to slow. We need to fix this for the dress rehearsal.
I believe that our set was very cohesive. We played each song with the right amount of intensity and expression. This is great, and makes for a very good setlist. Coming away from this mock performance, i felt very comfortable with not only my performance, but the rest of the bands as well. Slight improvements need to be made, then we should be good to go for the main performance.
Overall, I am very happy with how this mock went. For the little rehearsal time we have had, we have done incredibly well at pulling together a good set. The stage and the lighting is also looking great which is plus, as it was my job.
