Jazz Cafe Gig 1
Jazz Cafe Gig 2

These are the videos from our first Jazz Gig. The performance was in the cafe area of the college building. We managed to pull in a decent crowd who seemed to enjoy listening to the music. We all played really well, and despite the lack of time we had to learn this set, I think we sounded great.

My own personal performance was good. I struggled through a lot of the rehearsal process, due to being absent. I am also still new to the piano, and I often found some of the playing challenging. This is the case with a lot of jazz songs. To boost my grades and my overall performance, i decided to MC our gig. This means introducing each song. I think it was very affective and led the audience to feel more involved with the gig.

As a group, we performed very well. It seemed as if everyone really started to work well together and read each other. There were very few mistakes during the set, and most of them were not entirely noticeable to the audience. THe main stand out issue i noticed was going into the solos. We often struggled remembering whos solo was at what time and for how many bars. IN “Blue Bossa” most of the solo transitions were perfect. However, in “Last Christmas” the transitions to the solos led to the downfall of the song. If we get another chance to rehearse before we do our care home gig, this is the first thing I would like to fix.

Overall I believe it was a great performance by all. People seemed to really enjoy it and left the college happy, as did we.
