Album art is a big part of a release. The artwork needs to capture the vibe and the atmosphere of the music. You would be surprised at how many people will listen to a song or an album just because it has eye-catching artwork. Here are some album covers that I think have done this well.

Drake- If Your Reading This Its Too Late

This Album marked the start of Drake’s most commercial years, and throughout the 2010’s you would see this everywhere. The artwork is clean and easy to read. Although it is just black writing on a white background, it is surprisingly eye-catching. The idea for the artwork is great and the quote on the front has been remembered for years. Its very iconic within the rap music scene and is one of my personal favourite album covers ever.

Joy Divison- Unknown Pleasures

Perhaps one of the most iconic album covers ever. The album cover has been has been printed on millions of posters, printed on millions of T-shirts, posted on social media millions of times and even been tattooed on thousands of bodies. It is so iconic that even famous characters like Micky mouse have worn it in animations. The white pulse waves on the black background are eye-catching and enticing. Perfect recipe for a good album cover.

Dave- All Alone In This Together

I think this is a beautiful album cover. The artwork really reflects the vibes and the atmosphere that are portrayed through the songs in the album. The album art is complex, but is not too hard to understand. The colour and water colour technique used on the cover has great potential to become things like posters and prints. It includes important information as well such as the title of the album, and if the album is for all ages or not.

Kanye West- College Dropout

This album cover is so iconic within the music industry. The bear on the cover has been used on multiple of wests albums and is very easily recognisable. The artwork is simple but very eye catching. It is also one of wests best albums. The cover could have been improved by adding the name and the artist. But after all, it seems Kanye does what he wants.

Nines- Crabs In A Bucket

The artwork reflects the meaning of the album perfectly. The album is about all the troubled teens in London stuck in a cycle of committing crime to try and get somewhere. It is as if they are stuck. The name and the artwork reflect this perfectly. The cover includes the name of the artist and also the name of the album which others haven’t. Much like the Dave cover previously, this also has great potential to be a poster or a print.

These are just some of my favourite album covers. There are many great iconic covers out there that could have been put in the list. But these are my personal favourites and I also love the music that comes with them. I am a firm believer that good artwork can enhance the enjoyment you get out of listening to music. Don’t ignore how influential a good album cover can be.
