Research + Sources

This is the first article I am planning to use for research. Vice is a trusted and reliable source of information when it comes to subjects like this. There articles and Youtube documentaries are for the most part extremely consistent. They offer different information that I wouldn’t be able to find otherwise. This is purely down to the size of there social media reach. A young demographic and following, allows for this article to be packed with not only facts, but also peoples real life situations and experiences. For example, this article features a tweet from manchester based DJ Salute. The tweet includes his own personal overview on the epidemic, and how he has to cater for the issue when performing. I find this to match similar experiences that I have had. I can see myself using this article for a lot of my research.

Similarly to the Vice article, this piece of writing touches a lot on people own experiences with the drug. This is what I would like to centre my article around. Science can be very boring, and while it is good to touch on the the scientific affects the drug has on the body, I would like my article to be centered around the feelings and emotions that the drug brings along. From the perspective of both the artists and the rave attendees. One thing in particular that I liked about this article is its use of statistics. Statistics can be extremely powerful within essays, really conveying the sheer size of the problem. One solid statistic can prove a point better than 3 paragraphs of empty words. I can loop my essay back and forth to the statistic, thus reminding the reader how severe the problem is.

This is the link to a post put on the r/Techno subreddit. I am not a person who usually uses reddit, especially not for projects. However, when talking about risky subjects like this it is hard to find articles that are willing to go deep into the nitty gritty details of a problem like this. The first comment I saw on this post reads “Booze and Coke are the problem!”. This shows that there is a counter argument to the question asked, which thus far, I have struggled to find. This is an extremely interesting find, and as it is a live feed, I can keep up to date with peoples personal opinions whenever posted. After all, the essay does open, and end, with a question.

Another truly interesting read. This article comes from Queerty, a Queer newsite that delivers news and updates going on in the LGBTQ2+ community. As people are starting to become more aware, House was formulated very much by the LGBTQ2+ community. The first ever house raves were put on in underground “Gay bars” and predominantly attended by black, queer people. This is beginning to become a common fact. This article becomes very reliable. The article delivers the same tweets and opinions that the Vice article presented, but with a deeper explanation. It also gives a fresh perspective on how the use of ketamine can affect different communities within rave culture. Some key points have been taken from this article, they will be used to really drive the essay home.
